Upon the completion of the regular season, Region IV, Class AAA coaches voted 5 PCA athletes to their respective All Region teams. From the Boys' Varsity, Senior Blaise Sorenson and Sophomore Clay Chakeris were named All-Region. From the Girls' Varsity, Freshman Audrey Bright and Freshman Adelaide Suddeth were named All Region, while Junior Cokey Suddeth was named Player of the Year. Congratulations to these 5 athletes who have represented PCA well on the hardwood this season.

While the Boys' Varsity unfortunately did not make the SCISA state playoffs, the Girls' Varsity did and were awarded a first-round bye. In the second-round game, PCA took on Pee Dee Academy from Mullins, SC. The game was held at Wilson Hall in Sumter. PCA held a two-point lead at halftime but trailed by one point after a sluggish third quarter. In the final quarter, the Eagles outscored their opponents 19-14 and secured a 52-48 victory and a berth in the semi-final round.

Leading the way for PCA was Cokey with 33 points. She recorded a double-double by grabbing 13 rebounds. Avery Clark and Adelaide each scored 6 points, while Audrey Bright scored 4 and Scotty Wrenn scored 3.

Semi-final action saw the Eagles take on their old nemeses from Hilton Head Christian. The game was held at the Sumter County Civic Center. Our girls lost 39-64. Cokely led in scoring with 23 points and gathered 16 rebounds. She also blocked 5 shots and stole the ball 3 times. Audrey added 8 points while Avery and Adelaide each scored 4.

We are proud of our Fighting Eagles basketball teams and enjoyed watching them play throughout the season.

PCA Basketball saw some wins and some losses this week, but played tough on the courts.

Our first home game was against John Paul II on Monday. Both varsities lost. Girls' score was 40-57 and boys' score was 27-61. Both teams struggled to make many shots from the field as the visitors held our teams to 25% shooting or less.

For the girls, Cokey Suddeth scored 23 points and registered a double-double by gathering 10 rebounds. She was also 10 for 12 from the foul line. Audrey Bright scored 8 points while Adelaide Suddeth scored 4. Adelaide was the team leader in rebounding with 12 boards. She also stole the ball twice and blocked three shots. Avery Clark scored 3 points and Josie Hurley scored 2.

Tuesday saw the Eagles travel to Walterboro to take on Colleton Prep. All four of our teams won in a sweep of the Warhawks. The most exciting game was the JV boys who trailed for most of the second, third and fourth quarters, but won on a 3 point shot as time expired in the game. Final was 24-23.

It was a night of career highs in the Varsity Girls game. Avery Clark led the way with her career high 18 points. She also grabbed 8 rebounds. Josey Hurley scored a career high 9 points and had a career high in steals with 7 take-aways. Cokey scored 16 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, stole the ball 3 times and blocked 5 shots. Audrey scored 9 points, Scotty Wrenn scored 5 and dished out 4 assists. Adelaide scored 4 and gathered 8 rebounds and Alden Baugh scored 2 points. Final score was PCA 63 Colleton Prep 19.

Girls Basketball Teams Excited For Season Ahead!

Updated on 01/08/2024 | Raygon Hendrix

It's basketball season! Tryouts have come and gone, roster spots have been chosen, and practices have been underway for our 2023-2024 Eagles basketball teams. This upcoming weekend, our varsity teams will have the opportunity to start the season against some great competition. On Friday night the Varsity Girls will face off against James Island Charter High School starting at 5:20 at Cathedral Academy. We will also play on Saturday, and potentially on Sunday, at Cathedral against some local competition.

This year on our Varsity Squad we have seven girls that have been working non-stop since the end of last season. We may have a small squad but we these girls have been working extremely hard for months in preparation for the winter. Congratulations to the following girls that have made the varsity roster:

Cokey Suddeth (11), Scotty Wrenn (11), Avery Clark (10), Josie Hurley (10), Alden Baugh (10),

Audrey Bright (9), and Adelaide Suddeth (9).

Our JV squad is much younger this year than in the past. We have some young girls that are ready to improve their skill and compete. During the preseason, they displayed dedication by getting up early before school to play basketball. They love the game and we can't wait to see how they look by the end of the season. Congratulations to the following girls that have made the junior varsity roster:

Caroline Sapp (9), Eliza Grace Pruett (8), Anna Grace Works (8), Caton Newbern (8), Mayce Clark (8), Ripley Suddeth (7), Sophia Doster (7), Gracia Harrelson (7), Jane Craft (7), Ellery Taylor (7),

Anna Clark Cooke (7), and Nya Watson (7).

Come out and support your Fighting Eagles this season!
